improve the safety of road users

prevent serious damage to roads or buildings

facilitate traffic flows

preserve or improve amenities
Examples of TRO's are:

double/single yellow lines

one-way streets

resident parking areas

loading bays
Most result from input from local communities or the police, to address specific problems or quality of life issues.
