Who can register to vote?

People who can register include:

  • anyone who is 18 years old or more and is a British citizen or an Irish or Commonwealth citizen (who are entitled to vote at any election)
  • anyone who is 16 or 17 can register and will be able to vote after their 18th birthday
  • a European Union citizen (who is only entitled to vote at European Parliamentary or local elections, subject to the completion of a further form)

You can register to vote any time of the year by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. You will need to provide your national insurance number and date of birth when applying to be registered.
