Drivers will benefit from the resurfacing of the carriageway and upgraded traffic signals.
When will the roadworks take place?
Work will take place in five phases begin on 19th August 2024 until 31st December.
When will roads be closed?
As far as possible, the road works will take place using signal-controlled lane closures rather than full road closures.
Please note that multi-way temporary traffic signals will be in place on Westgate, Wharf Road, Station Road West, and Harlaxton Road at the junction of A52 and A607 for the duration of the first four phases 24/7.
Phase 1: 19 th August and 26th September
lane closures on Westgate, closing off the A52 slip road off Westgate onto Wharf Road and reducing Wharf Road to one lane for Sankt Augustin Way and Harlaxton Road.
The diversion route will be via Sankt Augustin Way and B1174.
Phase 2: 27th September to 18th October
Full closure of Station Road West from the private car park to the south of the residential dwellings to the junction.
There will be no access to Grantham Railway Station from Westgate or Wharf Road. Diverted traffic will be via Wharf Road, London Road, and Station Road East. Access to premises will be maintained.
Phase 3: 21st October to 6th November
Temporary traffic signals to take traffic coming from Harlaxton Road around the traffic island at the top of Harlaxton Road while works are carried out here.
Phase 4: 7th November and 22nd November
Removal of the right-hand lane from Westgate into Sankt Augustin Way with a diversion route via Wharf Road, High Street (B1174), Barrowby Road and Sankt Augustin Way.
Phase 5: 25th November to 6th December
Full nighttime road closures for resurfacing works from 7pm to 6am (weekday evenings only). The diversion route will be via the B1174 High Street/London Road, Tollemache Road, A1 and Harlaxton Road.
Please note that this is subject to suitable weather conditions. Rest assured that the contractor will be required to keep noise from these night works to a minimum, especially after 10pm.
How will access to and from the train station be affected?
Vehicle access to and from the train station will be restricted during phase two of the project (27th September – 18th October) as Station Road West will be closed during this period.
There will be no access to the Station from Wharf Road or Westgate.
During this period vehicle access to and from the Station will be via London Road (A52) and Station Road East.
Access to residents of Station Road properties will be maintained.
Please note dates are subject to change.
What does the project cost and how is it funded?
The project cost is £2.4Million. The project is funded through the Future High Street Fund Programme, and is part of the £4.2m public realm improvements to the town centre which also includes the Grantham Market Place regeneration works.
Why is the project taking place now?
The Future High Street Fund grant is time limited, and all the projects being delivered with the funding must be completed by 31st March 2025.
Will parking be affected?
