FixMyStreet in SKDC reinforces commitment to responsive community service

South Kesteven District Council is the latest local authority to introduce FixMyStreet, an online reporting platform for people to report issues and repairs in their community.

This user-friendly tool empowers residents to play an active role in keeping South Kesteven clean and well maintained by enabling them to report concerns such as broken streetlights or fly tipping with just a few clicks.

Leader of SKDC, Councillor Ashley Baxter, said, “Many of our residents are already familiar with using FixMyStreet to report county council issues such as potholes and flooding.

“They can now use the same platform to report issues to South Kesteven District Council including fly-tipping, graffiti and dead wildlife.

“We are delighted to introduce FixMyStreet technology to residents of South Kesteven.

“This platform not only streamlines reporting but also gives residents the chance to directly participate in the care and enhancement of their community.

“By making it easier to report concerns, we are ensuring that every voice is heard, and that every contribution helps keep the district safe, clean and well maintained.

“I would personally encourage anyone who spots any issues to explore FixMyStreet and take an active role in shaping their local environment.”

How FixMyStreet works

  • Residents enter their postcode or address to access an interactive map
  • The map displays all existing reports and local features such as public bins and streetlights, allowing for precise location selection. Users can zoom in, click on specific areas and subscribe to tailored updates for reports they are interested in
  • A user-friendly dropdown menu lets residents select from a range of categories, such as street lighting faults, fly-tipping or overflowing bins. The system guides users through straightforward questions, ensuring accurate details. For example, when reporting fly tipping, users may be asked whether the waste is in bags
  • Reports are automatically sent to the correct local authority. If an issue falls under the responsibility of a neighbouring council, it is seamlessly redirected. If a report is outside the boundary of Lincolnshire, users will be directed to the appropriate FixMyStreet site
  • Users can attach photos and provide additional details. Reports can be submitted anonymously or with an email address, allowing residents to receive a confirmation ticket and progress updates

FixMyStreet’s advanced technology streamlines the reporting process, ensuring that every concern is acknowledged and addressed promptly by the appropriate local authority.
