Energy-saving support for residents to go beyond home upgrades

Tenants benefiting from free energy saving home improvements through a partnership with E.ON and South Kesteven District Council will continue to benefit from additional support.

As part of the ongoing Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund upgrades, improvements have been made to 284 domestic council properties, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort for residents.

In addition, solar panels are due to be installed at Earlesfield Community Centre, Grantham West, contributing to SKDC’s sustainable energy goals.

The social value element reflects the partnership’s wider focus on providing meaningful support beyond the physical improvements to homes.

The projects social value package continues to provide residents with aid for community support groups through charitable donations, including Easter eggs, tinned goods and financial contributions to organisations helping those in need.

A spokesperson from SKDC said: “Working alongside our delivery partners, E.ON, we’ve not only delivered warmer, more efficient homes, but have also strengthened local networks and improved residents' overall quality of life.

“From reducing fuel poverty to enhancing community spaces, the scheme has generated benefits that go far beyond energy savings – it’s a platform for local regeneration.

“The social value package delivered as part of the SHDF scheme has been instrumental in ensuring our residents feel supported, not just during the works, but well beyond.

“From seasonal gestures like Christmas hampers to ongoing advice and community initiatives, we’ve prioritised wellbeing and inclusion alongside sustainability. It’s about building trust and resilience within our neighbourhoods.”

As part of the project’s commitment to giving back to the community, residents in the Turnor Crescent area of Grantham previously received Christmas hampers as a thank you for their understanding whilst upgrade works were carried out.

Chris Norbury, Chief Executive of E.ON UK said: “We can have a real impact in helping those people struggling to make ends meet, not only today, but for the longer term as well.

“The aim is to tackle the root cause of many people’s high energy bills today – namely high energy use due to our nation’s poorly insulated homes – and providing them with a more comfortable, sustainable and affordable home for the future.

“We are proud to work alongside South Kesteven District Council to bring energy saving efficient homes alongside wider social benefits to the community of South Kesteven, ensuring residents receive lasting support beyond the completion of works.”
