Changes to charges in Council car parks

Changes to car parking tariffs, which were approved by SKDC’s Cabinet in September, will be introduced next week – commencing Monday 20th January.

South Kesteven District Council-run car parks will offer Grantham drivers an hour of free parking in a bid to boost the local economy.

Cllr Richard Cleaver, Cabinet Member for Property and Public Engagement, said: “We are pleased to announce a set of parking charge tariffs for our off street car parks which we believe will encourage footfall and support local businesses.

“The changes to Grantham pricing include one hour of free parking at all but one car park - which will offer two hours free - will help to support the regeneration of our high streets and shopping areas.”

The Wharf Road multi-storey will offer two hours free, in line with the independently operated ground level spaces. One hour’s free parking will be available at Grantham’s short stay car parks in Guildhall Street, Watergate, Welham Street and Conduit Lane.

Changes will also be made to parking tariffs in Stamford. Responding to demand, 146 additional spaces will also be provided at the Cattlemarket Car Park, some of which will be spaces with electric vehicle charging points.

For regular users, season tickets can be purchased for use at SKDC long stay car parks in both Grantham and Stamford for three and six month periods, offering a significant discount on the daily parking charge. Visitors can purchase a season ticket for Welham Street car park Grantham (Levels 3-6) and for Cattlemarket and Wharf Road car parks in Stamford.

The changes to car parking tariffs, the first increase in more than three years, have been made following a consultation period in November, where interested parties were invited to comment.

A wider six-month review is also planned to gauge the effect of new parking arrangements to ensure they are meeting the needs of the users.
