Lifts at six sheltered housing developments run by South Kesteven District Council are to be replaced thanks to an investment of £600,000 agreed today (Thursday 18 January).
SKDC’s Cabinet has awarded the contract, with work expected to be complete within the three-year contract.
Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, Cllr Phil Dilks, said: “We are pressing ahead with this work because it’s the right thing to do for our more vulnerable tenants, and for council tax payers who have been funding ever-increasing maintenance costs due to ageing equipment.
“The existing lifts at our sheltered schemes have been in situ for many years.
“Despite regular servicing and maintenance, we are seeing more of callouts for breakdowns and higher maintenance costs, plus a lack of available parts.
“This investment will deliver a reliable service for tenants to access their homes, and if we can fulfil the upgrade sooner, we will.”
It follows replacement of lifts at two facilities this year, at Riverside in Grantham and Church View in Great Gonerby.
The improvements meet the Council’s corporate priorities to provide housing that meets the needs of all residents, and to encourage healthy and strong communities.
The lifts are at:
- Meadow Close, Bourne
- Stanton Close, Bourne
- Hillary Close, Stamford
- Emlyns Gardens, Stamford
- Essex Road, Stamford
Witham Place, Grantham
