Stamford Arts Centre recognised in tourism awards

Nestled in the heart of the market town, Stamford Arts Centre has been named a finalist in the prestigious Destination Lincolnshire 2023 Tourism Awards.

The venue, which is operated by South Kesteven District Council, has been nominated in the Arts, Culture and Heritage category as part of the annual awards which recognise outstanding businesses, venues and attractions from across Lincolnshire.

Cllr Paul Stokes, Cabinet Member For Leisure and Culture, said: "Stamford Arts Centre is a fantastic venue with much to offer the local community and beyond.

"This nomination is a well-deserved acknowledgment of its role in contributing to the cultural landscape of the town by offering and promoting arts and events throughout South Kesteven.

It is testament to the unwavering support of those who make the Arts Centre what it is and we look forward to welcoming new and returning visitors to our wonderful venue."

Drawing on its rich heritage dating back to the 18th Century, Stamford Arts Centre hosts regular music, theatre and cinema performances, exhibitions, workshops and other events.

It is also a popular venue for live screenings of theatre productions, operas, ballets and concerts including the Royal Opera House and National Theatre Live.

The Arts Centre opens its doors to amateur theatre groups and professional touring companies throughout the year, as well as being the ideal setting to hire for weddings, special occasions and other events.

To support the thriving poetry scene, Stamford Arts Centre is home to the monthly Pint of Poetry event held in the Gallery Bar with regular readings from local poets including Stamford's very own Poet Laureates.

Working alongside Stamford Town Hall and Stamford Arts Centre, the current Poet Laureate is Emily Dickens and the Stamford Youth Laureates are Abbie Blaire and Aiden Surridge.

The Arts Centre has been nominated alongside three other nominees in South Kesteven, including The William Cecil Hotel in Stamford which has been shortlisted for Hotel of the year.

The Hide Farm Stay near Bourne was nominated for New Tourism Business of the year and JandJ Alpacas in Dry Doddington, shortlisted for both Experience of the year and Small Visitor Attraction of the year.

The winners will be announced at an awards evening on Thursday 12th October 2023 at the Engine Shed in Lincoln. For a full list of nominees, visit https://www.lincolnshiretourismawards.com/finalists
