South Kesteven District Council is reviewing its Animal Welfare Licensing Policy to ensure it remains in line with legislative requirements.
The policy is designed to provide clarity to the public, partner agencies and applicants regarding animal welfare licensing across the district.
It covers issues including selling animals as pets; providing or arranging provision of boarding for cats or dogs; dog breeding; hiring out horses; and keeping or training animals for exhibition.
The Council reviews its Animal Welfare Licensing Policy every five years and wants to hear from licence holders, residents and other stakeholders.
Cllr Philip Knowles, Cabinet Member for Corporate Governance and Licensing, said: “Our policy sets out the standards of care that are expected when running a business involving animals such as boarding kennels, pet shops, riding schools and dog breeding establishments.
“When we licence these businesses in South Kesteven we are helping to protect animals by ensuring their health and wellbeing. It also provides reassurance for the public and those use these establishments.
“Please use this opportunity to tell us what you think.”
The policy ensures compliance with the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018, The Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 and the Zoo Licensing Act 1982.
