By-election candidates step forward

Candidates for two council by-elections on Thursday 9th November have been announced.

Those putting themselves forward for the seat available to represent the people of Grantham St Wulfram’s ward on South Kesteven District Council are (in alphabetical order):

Matt Bailey (Conservative Party); Jonathan Cook (Labour and Co-operative Party); Anne Gayfer (Green Party); James Osborn (Liberal Democrats); Susan Swinburn (Independent); Dean Ward (Independent).

The vacancy follows the death of Cllr Ray Wootten, which means that his Lincolnshire County Council seat for the Grantham North division will be contested on the same day.

Candidates for the LCC seat are: Jonathan Cook (Labour and Co-operative Party); Anne Gayfer (Green Party); Tim Harrison (Independent); Paul Martin (Conservative Party); Nat Sweet (Liberal Democrats); Dean Ward (Independent).

Polling hours are from 7am to 10pm at seven polling stations. Polling cards detailing where to vote have already been delivered.

Voters will need photo ID to vote in person, although there is a range of options.

Voter ID required at UK elections

Those who do not have any of the photo ID documents listed, and would like to vote at a polling station, can obtain a free Voter Authority Certificate - full details: www.southkesteven.gov.uk/voterID The deadline for applying for this is 5pm on Wednesday 1st November.

Voters are reminded they need to be registered to take part. They can register to vote online at  www.gov.uk/register-to-vote with a deadline for these elections of midnight on Tuesday 24th October. Those unable to vote at their local polling station can vote by post: https://bit.ly/SKDCvoting The deadline to apply for a postal vote or to change/cancel an existing postal or proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 25 October 2023.
