South Kesteven District Council’s CCTV team has been given the official mark of approval following an annual audit which confirmed that the system fully complies with all Government legislation.
The council’s cameras, which increase public safety, remain accredited following the review to ensure SKDC complies with the Surveillance Camera Commissioner’s Code of Practice.
SKDC’s Certificate of Compliance is also measured against the British Standard BS 7958:2015 for Closed circuit television.
It follows ongoing efforts from the CCTV team based in Grantham, which is expected to move into new premises at the town’s police station in the near future.
Cabinet Member for People and Communities, Cllr Rhea Rayside said: “This is a great result and is thanks to all of the processes that our dedicated team has put in place, the way they operate and their diligent prep work ahead of the audit.
“We are the only local authority in Lincolnshire that has this accreditation, and it is something to be proud of.
“We have more than 70 cameras across the district, all in public open spaces so that they can play a significant role in crime prevention, help our law enforcement partners and also to give reassurance to the public.”
SKDC operates cameras covering public open spaces in Grantham, Stamford, Bourne and The Deepings. They are monitored round-the-clock.
The CCTV operation is boosted from this week with a new postholder in situ to support double crewing and additional monitoring of the network of the cameras.
