Collector's licence This authorises the licensee to operate as a mobile collector in the area of the issuing local authority, permitting them to collect scrap metal. This includes commercial as well as domestic scrap metal. If a mobile collector operates within more than one local authority's district, a licence will be required for each authority. |

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires any persons collecting or buying scrap metal in South Kesteven to have a Scrap Metal Dealer Licence issued by us.

Application to apply or renew a Scrap Metal Dealer's Licence
Applicants must satisfy us that they are a legitimate trader and a suitable person to carry on a scrap metal business. Applicants are also required to produce a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check criminal records check - available online from the Disclosure Barring Service https://www.gov.uk/request-copy-criminal-record or call the DBS helpline on 03000 200 190.
From 4 April 2022, the rules are changing with regard to your tax responsibilities when you apply for a licence for a:

If you're an individual, company or any type of partnership you must confirm you are aware of your tax responsibilities if you're applying for a licence:

you have already held but that has not been valid for a year or more
