Information for Lincolnshire County Council Candidates and Agents

Information for anyone considering standing as a candidate for any of the 14 county divisions within the South Kesteven area at the Lincolnshire County Council elections taking place on 1 May.

Becoming a Candidate for the Lincolnshire County Council elections

Anyone considering standing as a candidate or an agent is strongly advised to read the guidance and information provided by the Electoral Commission.

To qualify as a candidate, a person must:

  • be at least 18 years old; and
  • be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights.
  • meet at least one of the four qualifications

Nominations packs

Printed nomination information packs for candidates can be requested from Electoral Services at South Kesteven District Council by contacting 01476 406080 (ask for Elections) or by email elections@southkesteven.gov.uk, specifying the division you wish to stand as a candidate. Electronic copies are available to download below.

Nomination papers for the County Council elections must be subscribed by a proposed and seconder who must be registered as local government electors within the relevant division.

Nomination papers are also available to download from the Electoral Commission's website at Resources for Candidates and Agents at local government elections in England.

Delivery of Nomination Papers

Candidates wishing to stand for election must submit nomination papers to the Deputy Returning Officer between  Wednesday 19 March to Wednesday 2 April 2025 (10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday).  For any of the 14 divisions within the South Kesteven area, the location for delivery of nomination papers is: Witham Room, South Kesteven House, Civic Building, St Peter's Hill, Grantham, NG31 6PY.

It is requested that an appointment be made with the elections team for the delivery of nomination papers. To make an appointment for formal submission of nomination papers please contact the elections team:

  • phone 01476 406080 during office hours and ask for elections
  • email elections@southkesteven.gov.uk giving your name, contact details, number of nomination papers to be submitted and the name of the division(s).

Priority will be given to those who have made an appointment. If you do not, you may have to wait to be seen.

Nomination papers received by post or email cannot be accepted and will be invalid. 

Delivery of the nomination paper, home address form and consent to nomination MUST be by hand and can be by the candidate or their representative. Whilst the other necessary documents may be sent by post it is clearly desirable for all documentation to be delivered with the nomination paper.
